If you’re shooting HDR images multiple exposures or anything that requires absolute sharpness product shots this will do the job. Like the camera’s shutter release, the RSN3 supports a half-press or full press – which releases the shutter. So, it’s good for self portraits and test shots but I wanted something that would allow me to still be able to look through the viewfinder behind the camera and line up my shot and get a picture with maunal camera shake.
The L-shaped plug however faces degree the wrong way on my 40D, IE the L faces to the front of the camera. Excellent – swwitch you need a way to trip the shutter without moving the camera.

So I bought another. The plug locks manyal the camera until you tug on the locking collar; it’s simple and very effective. I am glad I don’t have to use the timer on my camera any more, just would have been nice if the body was made out of aluminum. This ingenious device is a must have if you shoot long exposures. Well, to my surprise the wireless remote does not work from behind the camera. I’m thinking of buying the cheaper after-market one as a backup for when this does stop working.
I did this because in 5 years of heavy professional use I had never once used the timer function of the original, far more expensive, TCN3.
This has to be the premiere camera and related product enterprise business in the world. In less than a year the rubber wire attachment at the top of the remote has opened up and exposed the copper wiring underneath.
