The words are repetitive, and the descriptions are bad and pointless. Especially when you can’t find anything you like in the halcin character. The Character development was non existent except for Sam Spade, the main character. I love detective fiction. The book plays out like a boring episode of Scooby Doo if the characters were all victims of self inflicted anoxic brain injuries from trying to breath under water.

Though largely compliant with the Production Code, Huston’s remake did contain some innuendo: I don’t know how this is a classic, other than the movies it was based off of and the sentimental value a generation has placed on them.
