After he showed himself to be an honorable man, she was still scared of him! Its hard for me to even describe the positive aspects of it because there are so many negative ones.

However, I think the interactions between the two did allow Alienore time to see what a good person Colin was underneath all that gruff. Though its a strange romance, I really enjoyed many parts of this book. There are some villains and some fight scenes in the story that drive Alienore and Colin together and reveal the danger they face and I enjoyed the plot.


Why neither Humbert nor Isabeau realized what a bestial nature Sir Etienne had or why they would put him in charge of their daughter’s progress to Blackmour, Kurlajd never understand.

I laughed at the wedding night scene when he broke her nose; I could not help feeling sorry for her. When Alienore finds out the stepmother who loathes her has betrothed her to The Butcher, she knows she must flee or face a life of misery. All she seemed to do with skitter around like a mouse. She might as well have been a potato. I felt the writing was a bit repetitive, but that may just have to do with my lack of understanding of how this genre is written.

When I asked my mom to recommend her favorite book for me to read, she picked this one. Overall, I just felt disappointed in the story as a historical romance. Her actions just made me wince my way through the story so I could get it over with.
